BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded in 1972 to bring the brand’s racing activities together. It marked the beginning of the M division and a new chapter in BMW’s competition history.

In 1983, Nelson Piquet won the Formula One Drivers’ World Championship in a BMW-powered Brabham. It was the first drivers’ title won with a turbocharged engine.

Around the Clock.
BMW claimed overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999 with the V12 LMR. The win added one of endurance racing’s greatest prizes to its motorsport heritage.
